phase 3

Innovations Exploration

Overview

To explore innovative ways of designing an advanced music discovery tool, research was conducted on the following potentially fruitful topics:

  1. AI for music discovery

  2. Dealing with choice overload

  3. Graphic notation and synesthesia

Each topic exploration has been separated into a single page for better readability and is counted as a deliverable. An overall conclusion that covers all three topics has been drawn in this page.

Conclusion

Three topics were explored to discover innovation opportunities about designing an advanced music discovery tool:

  1. AI for music discovery: AI can speed up the music discovery process by increasing the searchability of a music catalogue. The tool Cyanite AI has such functionality through its advanced searching techniques. The Cyanite AI API allows to integrate those searching techniques in custom applications. A decision was made to use this tool in the Concept Creation phase.

  2. Dealing with choice overload: The time consumption and exhaustion of selecting music is caused by choice overload which can be reduced by limiting the given number of music suggestions. This knowledge was proved useful for making design decisions during the Concept Creation phase.

  3. Graphic notation and synesthesia: These offer potential for interpreting and experiencing music in new, open and richer ways. However, their application for music discovery for filmmakers might not be that significant.

Next steps

Having explored specific innovation opportunities such as leveraging Cyanite AI and addressing choice overload by presenting music results in a new way, the next step was to integrate these findings into the creation of a concrete concept for the advanced music discovery tool.

Furthermore, following the exploration of using AI for music discovery, the final iteration of the design challenge was formulated:

"Design an AI-powered film music discovery tool to enable filmmakers to find suitable music that matches the vision for their film projects in a more efficient and intuitive way."
